Opus 6a

Elegy for Quy Tong

Piano Arrangement

Dedicated to Chau Tong, my mother

On 24 February 2019, my grandmother suffered a fatal cardiac arrest while traveling to Nanaimo, BC. When I woke up to the news, as I had slept through the entire incident, the emotions that struck me I felt could only be properly expressed through music. This elegy, containing the essence of my anguish and shock, is both inspired by and dedicated to my grandmother and her passing.

My mother occasionally plays the piano, and she enjoyed and appreciated this piece, so I decided that a piano arrangement of it would make an acceptable Mother's Day gift. This is the first piano solo I have ever composed, and it was done over the course of only three days, as I had this idea quite close to Mother's Day, so suggestions on how this piece can be improved are appreciated.
