Opus 13

Concertino for String Orchestra and Violin in G Minor

"Inverno pandemico"

This concertino was composed to be a part of the "Creative Innovations" concert, where the Victoria Conservatory of Music Chamber Orchestra and Jonathan Crow (concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony) as the soloist performed Vivaldi's Four Seasons with different students' compositions preceding each season.

"The idea is that while Vivaldi's pieces are a reflection of the time in which he was living, the student pieces will be a reflection of the year that we will all just have gone through."
- Christine Donkin, VCM Composition Club Instructor

I was selected to write for “Winter”, and I decided to tempestuously depict the height of the second wave.
This is not my only piece inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, as my first symphony (Op. 14) illustrates all the way from the outbreak to the vaccine.

Suggestions on how to improve my compositions are appreciated.
